ME498 – Important Announcement Regarding Course Registration and Approval Process

ME498 is a course that requires meticulous planning and academic responsibility. The registration process is carried out according to the following principles:

1. Course Proposal and Approval Process

Students who wish to take a course within the scope of ME498 are required to:

  • Prior to the registration period, submit the following details of the course they plan to take:
    • Course syllabus,
    • Justification/Reasoning,
    • Medium of instruction,
    • Workload details
  • To the course coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şenay Mihçin.

Applications found suitable will be submitted for Department Board approval. Once board approval is obtained, the registration process is finalized during the Add–Drop week. Note: Any attempts made without prior approval are considered invalid.

2. Requirements for Online Courses

For an online course to be evaluated under ME498, it must:

  • Be compatible with a 14-week workload,
  • Have English as the medium of instruction,
  • Not have more than a 30% content overlap with any course offered at IZTECH (İYTE),
  • Include the instructor’s confirmation stating their agreement to conduct an examination.

After ensuring these conditions are met, the student must submit an official petition to the department secretariat to request the evaluation of the course by the Department Board. Registration can only proceed following Board approval.

3. Academic Responsibility and Grading

  • Students hold a general right to withdraw (W).
  • However, students who register for the course but fail to fulfill their academic obligations will receive an FF grade.
  • This course is not one where externally obtained certificates are automatically recognized or counted.
  • Every application is evaluated strictly in accordance with academic criteria.

Please review the process carefully and ensure your applications are complete and submitted on time.
